Verizon Sets the Stage for PTA

Mike Millegan, President of Verizon Partner Solutions, introduced Dr. Maya Angelou, keynote speaker at the PTA's 112th Annual National Convention last Saturday. Voicing Verizon's commitment to education, Millegan said, "Growing up, education was a cornerstone of growth. School was a place to learn, think and dream about a future full of possibilities.", Verizon Foundation's free digital learning platform, was a Platinum Sponsor of the four-day event in San Diego, Calif., that called on parents, teachers, students and PTA leaders to share best practices in education, child advocacy and community and business partnerships.

"Verizon is extremely committed and focused on initiatives that support and drive education and literacy success across the country," said Verizon Foundation president Patrick Gaston. "To make those efforts a success on the grassroots level it is important to have strong, dedicated partners such as the National PTA who share our vision for opening additional learning opportunities for all children to give them the best chance to reach their full potential."

Angelou's work ranges from civil rights to her bestseller, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings." "You are all rainbows..." Dr. Angelou told the thousands of attendees in a standing-room-only ballroom. "You all come together to make the lives of our country's children and children all over the world better... You all have courage! And courage is the greatest of all virtues because without courage you can do no others consistently."
