Team Tavarez, part of The Strategic Partnership Channel, only gets together a few times a year for face-to-face meetings. This year its Director Team Summit, led by Erma Tavarez, director in the Strategic Partnership Channel, was held in Atlanta, Ga. The group of 30 managers and consultants decided to include a community-service activity into their program and chose the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB) as their benefitting nonprofit organization.
“Team Tavarez has had a great year in 2012 and is off to a great start in 2013,” Tavarez said. “Having said that, we believe in order to continue this trajectory we must give back. Life is like a revolving door when you do good by others only great things will happen. This is the culture we breed in my team and I am so proud of each and every one of them.”
Ironically, when the team showed up wearing their Verizon Wireless jackets, employees from another telecommunications company were there − AT&T! For three hours, everyone got along fine and worked side by side to sort and pack 18,896 pounds of food, creating meals for 12,597 hungry Georgians.
Founded in 1979, the mission of the ACFB is to fight hunger by engaging, educating and empowering the community. ACFB procures more than 35 million pounds of food and groceries each year and distributes it to more than 600 nonprofit partner agencies serving families and individuals in 29 metro Atlanta and north Georgia counties.
