Massive and deadly tornadoes tore through the Oklahoma City suburbs May 19-20th, destroying homes and schools, killing over 50 residents and leaving a 20-mile wake of devastation.  The Verizon Foundation—the philanthropic arm of Verizon—pledges to give $100,000 to assist victims in the Oklahoma City Area.

The Verizon Foundation has activated its Disaster Relief and Recovery Program that provides 1-to-1 of employee online donations (from $25 up to $1,000 per employee) —from Verizon employees to the Salvation Army, Save the Children and the American Red Cross relief agencies.

The foundation's disaster-relief program is open to all of our employees around the world.

To access the disaster-relief program and contribute, Verizon Employees can logon to the Verizon Foundation Matching Gifts site then select the Disaster Relief icon.
In addition, Verizon Wireless customers can use their mobile phones to make $10 donations to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to support those affected by the tornadoes.

• To Donate to American Red Cross Relief: Text REDCROSS to 90999

Verizon Wireless waives text-messaging fees for disaster relief, so text messages are free when used to make donations and 100 percent of each $10 donation goes to the Red Cross. For Verizon Wireless customers who pay monthly bills, the $10 donations will appear on the next regular monthly bill. For customers using the company’s prepaid services, the $10 donation will be taken from customers’ prepaid balances.

The relief agencies have mobilized to respond to the enormous need for water, meals and shelter -- a need that's likely to continue for days.

Our hearts go out to our employees and all Oklahoma residents impacted by this devastating natural disaster
