Library Media Connection Magazine Names Verizon Thinkfinity Best Free Educational Web Site
Verizon Foundation's Thinkfinity won the Editor's Choice award for best free educational Web site from Library Media Connection Magazine (LMC).
Thinkfinity, www.thinkfinity.org, offers tens of thousands of free, standards-based K-12 resources, including lesson plans, worksheets, videos and interactives - designed to enhance teacher effectiveness and improve student achievement. Eleven of the nation's leading organizations in the fields of education and literacy, in partnership with the Verizon Foundation, provide the content that covers eight academic disciplines from science to English to arts and mathematics.
LMC's Editor's Choice awards cover 24 categories of products that are most valuable to K-12 students and to educators, especially school librarians, who work with them. "Winners of this award should be considered by school library media specialists as necessary resources for their libraries and schools," said Shelly Glantz, reviews editor for Library Media Connection. "This is where the good stuff lives - tens of thousands of resources, accessible and searchable."
Departments of Education in 29 states have chosen Verizon Thinkfinity as an important resource for their teachers. One of those teachers said, "This is, perhaps, the best website ever. I have asked for information for lessons on many different and sometimes esoteric subjects and have been impressed with the range of topics covered."
"We are very pleased to receive this award," said Patrick Gaston, president of the Verizon Foundation, "and even more pleased to provide educators with top-quality, trustworthy, standards-based resources at no cost."
